The Full Story

Ketamine Therapy

Ketamine therapy is an innovative treatment used to help individuals suffering from treatment-resistant depression and other mood disorders. Originally developed as an anesthetic, ketamine has been shown in clinical studies to rapidly improve symptoms of depression—especially in patients who haven’t responded well to traditional antidepressants.

How Does Ketamine Work For Depression?.png

Ketamine works by affecting glutamate, the brain’s primary excitatory neurotransmitter. Unlike traditional antidepressants that target serotonin or norepinephrine, ketamine stimulates new neural connections, promotes neuroplasticity, and can lead to rapid improvement in mood and emotional resilience.

Is This The Same as IV Ketamine Therapy_.png

At Happy Clinic, we offer oral ketamine therapy in the form of custom-compounded lozenges (troches) that dissolve in your mouth. While IV therapy is performed in-clinic, oral ketamine provides a convenient, at-home option that still offers excellent results—especially when paired with follow-up care and guidance.

What Conditions does Ketamine help treat_.png

We currently prescribe at-home ketamine therapy for:

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

  • Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD)

  • Anxiety and PTSD (in select cases)

  •

  • All patients are evaluated to ensure they are appropriate candidates for therapy.

How Do I Know If I am a candidate_.png

You’ll begin with a comprehensive 45–60 minute consultation with one of our experienced physicians. We’ll review your medical history, current medications, mental health background, and any past treatments. If you're a good fit, we’ll create a personalized dosing plan and support structure.

What is the treatment process like_.png
  • Initial consultation (in-person or virtual)

  • Receive custom-compounded oral ketamine lozenges

  • Take the medication in the comfort of your home, 2–3 times per week

  • Monthly follow-up visits to track your progress and adjust dosing

  • Ongoing messaging support is included in your care plan

What are the side effects of Ketamine Therapy?.png

While most patients tolerate ketamine well, potential side effects may include:

  • Dissociation (a dreamy, floaty sensation)

  • Mild increase in heart rate or blood pressure

  • Dizziness or nausea

  • Fatigue following sessions

These effects are usually short-lived and resolve on their own. Your physician will monitor you closely and adjust the dose as needed.

Is it safe to take Ketamine at home?.png

Yes—when prescribed responsibly and monitored appropriately. At Happy Clinic, we provide detailed instructions, safety protocols, and require regular follow-ups. We begin treatment at low doses and increase only if medically appropriate.

Will I be curred in 1 month?.png

Ketamine therapy is not a cure, but many patients experience rapid and significant relief. Some require only a few months of treatment, while others benefit from ongoing maintenance. We tailor care to your needs and goals, always with safety first.

Do I need to be in therapy while on Ketamine?.png

While not required, we highly recommend psychotherapy or coaching alongside ketamine treatment. The medication can enhance openness, emotional insight, and neuroplasticity—making it a powerful tool when paired with talk therapy or personal growth work.

We have a network of psychotherapists that we work with and can refer you to one that meets your needs.
